2012 WORCS Round 2 Race Report

2012 WORCS Round 2 Race Report by Doug Rahders, R3motorsports

First, I have to start with a HUGE THANK YOU to Justin Lambert and Cognito Motorsports. These guys developed a long travel suspension system for the RZR570 in 3 weeks and delivered to the track race ready, total pros. Also, an equal size thanks to Fox Racing Shox for jumping on board and supplying us shocks to compliment the Cognito suspension. And last, both Black Rhino Performance for securing us a set of beadlock wheels at the last minute and ITP Tires for the hook up on a set of SXS ATR tires.
When we first saw 570 it looked amazing, the stance the long travel kit gave it made it look much more aggressive. We decided to replace the drive belt then added the bead lock wheels and the machine was ready to test. Cody then went out and found a section of woops where he made several passes to test the new suspension and came back all smiles. “The car is so plush, it’s like butter.” Cognito hit the mark, it was time to race.
70 vehicles showed up to race Primm, it was the most ever for a WORCS race and meant the course would get chewed up in a hurry and there would be lots of carnage. With 10 cars lining up in Production 700 Code was 7th through the first turn where he pretty much stayed through the first lap.
At the top of the 2nd lap he was starting to move forward, “There were two Rhino’s in front of me battling so I was going to sneak around them both, I was inside of them when one car got spun out by the other one and it shot him directly in front of me. I had just came off a woop and was in the air, there was nothing I could do and T-bone him hard.”
The impact crushed both the front bumper and radiator and with the vehicle losing coolant it was only a matter of time before the engine shut down resulting in a DNF. “There are 8 races in the series and we get to throw our worst round out, I was hoping that would be Glen Helen but it looks like it will be Primm now. We’re going to make some small changes then start working on the engine to find some more horse power and go for a podium finish at round 3.”
Cody and R3Motorsports would like to thank their sponsors for the 2012 WORCS Season; Cognito Motorsports, Polaris Industries, UTVunderground, Fox Racing Shox, Superchips Performance Engine Tuners, RacerX Racing Radios, Black Rhino Performance, K&N Filters, Pro Armor, and Synergy Graffix.

Thanks
